Queer Tango Argentino

A four legged animal with two beating hearts

Queer Tango Argentino

A whole day full of Queer Tango!
We cordially invite you to a very special tango event. After four skillful workshops for beginners and advanced dancers, the day will turn into a big Milonga – a celebration of our tango community and the joy of dancing together in Stuttgart.

Programme

Concept:
We dance Tango Argentino without fixed roles: leading, following or switching – whether alone or in pairs, everyone is welcome! Our goal is to consciously break down traditional gender roles and make gender diversity tangible through dance. In four workshops, we will teach basic and advanced techniques and steps before giving free rein to our desire to dance at our milonga until late into the night.
The experienced and popular tango DJ MA will provide the right rhythm and atmosphere!

Trainer:
Sabine Lakota leads the workshops.
She has been dancing queer tango for 19 years and has extensive experience teaching double-role dancers who want to learn both roles – leading and following. Her stays and tango studies in Argentina, Sweden, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Greece and France have had a diverse influence on her teaching style. She also occasionally performs on stage – for example, in tango dance theatre productions on small stages or, in the past, at Laura's legendary Kings Club in Stuttgart.
Sabine is supported in the workshops by Sandra, Stefy and Harald.

Workshop 1: Tango Basics with Sabine and Sandra
11:15 to 12:30
For: Beginners (with or without previous experience)
Single registrations possible
Content: The aim of this workshop is to learn the basics of Tango Argentino and experience the Tango feeling while dancing.

Workshop 2 - Technique Special with Sabine and Harald
12:45 to 14:00
For: Intermediate/advanced dancers and tango beginners with knowledge from the prior beginner's course
Single registrations possible
Content: The focus is on leading and following, finding the axis together and the feeling of truly dancing with each other. Fine details, clear connection and a conscious embrace – for more harmony and joy and a beautiful dance experience.

Workshop 3 - Milonga Traspié with Sabine and Stefy
14:45 to 16:00
For: Intermediate/advanced dancers (for this workshop, you should already know the basic Milonga step, Milonga Lisa)
Single registrations possible.
Content: Milonga is the mother of tango, fast, cheerful, happy... In this course, you will learn about the dynamics and character of Milonga Traspié.

Workshop 4 - Volcada with Sabine, Sandra, Stefy and Harald
16:15 to 17:30
For: Advanced dancers (at least 3 years of dance experience)
Single registrations possible.
Content: A volcada is one of the most spectacular figures in Argentine tango, in which the follower leans out of their own axis and shifts their weight to the leader. The word ‘volcada’ comes from the Spanish verb volcar, which means ‘to tip over’ or ‘to roll over’. We begin with technical exercises and slowly work our way towards the feeling of controlled releasing or accepting the axis to or from the partner.

Milonga:
18:00 to 22:00
Content: Our DJane MA prefers to play beautiful traditional pieces, often revived and freshly interpreted by modern ensembles. She also finds gems in Non, Neo and World Music that provide some great variety and are wonderful for dancing tango.

"For me, the most important thing is that the tangueras and tangueros go home happy and in a good mood."

For: All queer tango, double role and one role dancers are welcome.
All dance levels are welcome.
A huge dance floor allows you to dance tango to your heart's content! Come and join us!

Admission to the milonga is included for all workshop participants and does not have to be paid for separately.
